What is a Marketing Flywheel?

The trouble most companies have with marketing is that they feel like it’s just too much work. They talk about feeding the content beast.

Well, this is the antithesis of that.

A flywheel is a self-sustaining marketing system.

Activities feed into each other and each action creates more momentum for the next step. This makes it easier and easier as you go.

This guide will show you how to make your own marketing flywheel (based on a process like the one we use in our agency).

How to Create Your Marketing Flywheel

1. Start with Conversations
Begin by getting a few guests for a podcast or interview series. These guests will provide valuable insights and content for your marketing.

2. Turn Questions into Content
When guests book their interviews, send them a questionnaire. Ask questions that you can use to create content by answering.

3. Repurpose the Interview Content
Use the interview to create various types of content, such as videos, podcasts, social media posts, and newsletter articles.

4. Use Automation to Expand
Set up an automated system that asks your guests to recommend another guest. This system will send an email with the booking link, making it easy for new guests to join.

5. Engage Your Newsletter Audience
Include calls to action (CTAs) in your newsletter. Ask readers to nominate new guests and sponsor the newsletter. As your subscriber base grows, so does the value of your platform.

BONUS — Follow Up After the Interview
After each interview, make sure to follow up with guests. This keeps the relationship going and opens the door for future opportunities.

You can see how each step moves right into the next step. It’s like moving downhill, instead of up.

Your Turn

Try setting up your own marketing flywheel using the steps above.

It’s a simple, but effective way to create great marketing that actually works better (and gets easier) over time.
